Menu Gordon Jones in Bath

Menu Gordon Jones
One of the J's along with husband visited http://www.menugordonjones.co.uk/index.shtml
Well, what an experience! There is actually no menu at Menu Gordon Jones which means you get what is brought to you and described by Sarah. The restaurant is a short taxi ride out of town and is small. I think there were about ten diners on Friday evening. We were fortunate to have been on the waiting list for a cancellation and somebody cancelled otherwise I am not sure how long the wait to dine here would have been.
Our first offering was an amuse bouche of courgette & cheddar cheese....
Our second was Severn river eel on mashed potato, asparagus & borage flowers....
Our third was Rock fish with tomatoes, samphire and a nasturtium flower....
Our fourth was a dish of beef cheek which was delicious.....
Our fifth was a palate cleanser which included the flavours of sweet corn....
Our sixth was a beautiful souffle with strawberry sauce.....
All this J can say is she cannot wait to go back!

Dive & Dine Dinner - Pre Demonstration Supper at the Torch Theatre Milford Haven

Food with the 4 J's last night became Food with the 2 J's (other 2 J's were at work).

The venue was the Torch Theatre, Milford Haven for Pembrokeshire Fish week's Dive & Dine Dinner. This comprised of a three course menu featuring a locally caught fish main course of grilled mackerel, broad beans & chorizo from Bryn Williams http://www.odettesprimrosehill.com/, a yummy chocolate & apple desert by Alyn Williams, 2 Michelin Star chef from http://www.westburymayfair.com/alyn-williams-at-the-westbury-,restaurent_viewItem_2-en.html and a selection of canapes to start by Guy Morris of 'on a plate' http://www.uchef.co.uk/. There is no picture of the canapes owing to the fact we were busy chatting and enjoying their delicious taste.....we forgot about a picture!...ooops...!
After dinner we went to watch 'A Fair Fish for a Fare Dish' cookery demonstration. Our friend Simon Wright from http://www.wrightsfood.co.uk/ (who I promise we are not stalking!) presented the evening. Ravinder Bhogal and Anthony Evans chatted & cooked during the first half then Bryn Williams & Alyn Williams took their turn in the second half.
We enjoyed listening to their tales of the morning spent fishing (Ravinder & Anthony) diving (Bryn) & Alyn driving along the M4 ! We learnt about whelks, pollock, rock salmon, skate, fish curry & foraging for foods such as sorrel & sea beet. Our friend Yun Hider http://www.mountainfood.org/ forages for foods in and around Pembrokeshire for chef Alyn Williams and was both at the dinner and in the audience.
We came away from the evening well fed & a little bit more informed about fish!

Wright's Independent Food Emporium

a food store and a little bit more... www.wrightsfood.co.uk ...Food with the 4 J's first outing took place on Tuesday 12th June 2012.

We chose to go to Wrights Independent Food Emporium at Nantgaredig between Carmarthen & Llandeilo.

We knew Simon & Maryann Wright from their time at Y Polyn & Simon's help & involvement with the Narberth Food Festival (Narberth is where all the 4 J's currently live)

We started off with some great apple juice from Crickhowell and all chose a different lunch..from Cothi Valley Goats cheese & salad leaves, smoked haddock & leek pie, raclette cheese & new potatoes and a pea & mint chowder. All very delicious.

We all indulged in a little food shopping. One of the 4 J's bought a pie to take home in an enamel tin. You can pay a deposit on the tin and can return it next time and get another pie. You can do a similar thing with bottles of wine straight out the barrel & olive or rapeseed oil the same way by paying a deposit on the bottles which can be reused.

They kindly stored our shopping for us whilst we popped into Llandeilo to do a bit of retail therapy at Peppercorn www.peppercorn.net the kitchen shop & Toast www.toast.co.uk the clothes shop.

We paid our second visit in one day back to Wright's to have a well deserved pot of tea and a selection of cakes, including a slice of lardy cake!
